More heron bones

The heron are grouping in the park these days as the begining of breeding season nears. We witnessed a Heron doing a dance in the tree tops the other day, maybe they are shaking the trees so much that all the bones and sticks start slipping out of abandond nests.

When I was a kid we lived close to this amazing wild wood. Just on the edge of the woods was a enormous storm drain. My friends and I would play for hours in this little creek, make dams, get soakers and splash around. We were team mates and leaders and orginizers. This whale today reminds me of this time (and most whales do) because we would always look down the drain…with its corrigated ribbing and blackness…and we would call for PINOCCIO! "Pinoccio are you down there?!" the echo and the dampness was so mysterious. It never got old and we all knew the story so well, even though we had only seen the movie onece or twice on channel two on a sunday! (yay CBC!!!) We were calling out to the child that wanted to be rescued and loved, we wanted him to join us. I don't know where this rant is going but I feel a little sad for kids today. I want them to run wild in the wods and connect with the dirt and rocks and each other. I want kids to call out to each other and save themselves from the belly of the whale…
